Tackling Textiles Workshops - when we teach, we learn!
I have had such a wonderful start to 2025 and a lot of it is thanks to Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful's #TacklingTextiles grant!
Last year I applied for some grant funding through this fantastic campaign to empower people to reduce textile waste and learn new skills! The money for the fund comes from DAERA's Carrier Bag levy - so, any time anyone buys a bag in a shop, that money is funnelled towards environmentally friendly initiatives like this! Class, eh?
A lot of the products i make are a great example of reducing waste in general, but, did you know, i make a LOT of decisions in my studio based around environmental impact and reducing waste?
- Reusable facial cleansing pads went from wasteful circles to bigger, zero-waste squares, often using fabric offcuts for the cotton squares
- Offcuts from my UnPaper Towels, Preventatents, Eco-Wipes and Bamboo Wash cloths are repurposed as padding inside my Wee Scrubbers
- The Wee Scrubbers' scrubbing part is made from repurposed Coffee Bean sacks
- My Scrappy Scrunchies are made from offcuts of all my other sewing projects
I'm so happy to say i was successful in the funding and was able to deliver a series of workshops showing attendees how to make their own versions of some of my best selling products!
And what a fab five weeks it was! I was so thrilled to be able to host the classes in the fantastic The Workshop, Ballynahinch - what a gorgeous space with loads going on!

I was so happy to be able to share my tips and tricks with all the participants and I learnt a lot from them too, all the while fuelled by some great vegan snacks from Harry's Place.
